What Makes a Game Great in 2026?

As we dive deeper into 2026, I’m curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on what really makes a game stand out today. With the rapid advancements in technology and storytelling, there are so many elements to consider.

Is it the gameplay mechanics that keep you coming back for more, or is it the immersive worlds and narratives? Maybe you think character development plays a pivotal role? I’d love to hear your opinions on what you believe defines a great game in this current landscape.

What games do you think exemplify these qualities, and have your preferences changed over time? Let’s discuss!

I feel like gameplay mechanics are still king. A game can have the most stunning visuals, but if the controls are clunky, I’m out. For example, I loved the last action RPG I played because the combat felt super smooth, and it just kept me hooked. How about you all? Have you found any recent games that nail the mechanics?
